Amber Ruffin Comes Out As Queer On Final Day Of Pride Month

Comedian and former talk show host Amber Ruffin honored the final day of LGBTQ+ Pride Month by coming out.

“In what will come as a shock to exactly zero people, I’m using the last day of PRIDE to come out!” she wrote Sunday in the caption of an Instagram post that included a snapshot of her in a T-shirt with the word “queer” printed in rainbow colors.

“Be proud of who you are, little babies! I know I am!” she continued, before joking: “And I can’t wait to be discriminated against for a new reason!!”

By Monday afternoon, Ruffin’s post had received more than 45,000 likes, along with supportive comments from some of her famous friends.

“Welcome home Amber!! Our team just keeps getting hotter and smarter!!” wrote “One Tree Hill” actor Sophia Bush, who came out as queer in April. “Happy Pride, dear one.”

Comedian Amber Ruffin rose to national prominence as a writer for “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”

Actor and singer Cynthia Erivo echoed those sentiments, writing: “Welcome baby love!! bathrooms are to the left, refreshments to the right, grab a chair. The DJ takes requests.”

A Nebraska native, Ruffin rose to national prominence as a writer for “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” She went on to host her own late-night show, “The Amber Ruffin Show,” on Peacock from 2020 to 2022. She’s also written for Broadway, having updated the script for the current revival of “The Wiz” and collaborated with Matthew López on the 2022 musical adaptation of “Some Like It Hot.”

Ruffin was married to Dutch painter Jan Schiltmeijer for 13 years. Their divorce was finalized in December.
