A 17-year-old girl from Sangli district in Maharashtra was allegedly beaten by her father brutually for get poor marks in a NEET mock exam. The accused, Dhondiram Bhagwan Bhosale, a 50-year-old principal of a private educational institution, has been arrested and placed in police custody, reported India Today.
Police reported that Sadhana, a Class 12 student preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), had recently performed poorly in a preparatory test. Her mother, Preeti Bhosale, lodged a complaint indicating that her husband, angered by Sadhana’s low marks, attacked her with a wooden stick on Friday night.
The assault left Sadhana critically injured. Her mother took her to a hospital the next morning, but as her condition worsened, she was transferred to the district hospital, where she passed away during treatment.

After performing her daughter’s last rites, the mother approached the police and formally lodged a complaint against her husband. Based on her statement, a case was registered against Dhondiram Bhosale under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, the report added.
Following the incident, sub-divisional police officer Vipul Patil and police inspector Vinay Vahir visited the crime scene. Bhosale was arrested by the Atpadi Police on Sunday and presented in court, where he was remanded to police custody until June 24.
Meanwhile, this year, the NEET UG exam was held on May 4 2025. Some candidates from Indore have filed a petition in the High Court regarding the problems faced in the exam due to storm, rain and power cuts during that time. These candidates have demanded to conduct the NEET UG exam again. The court has scheduled the hearing for June 30, 2025. The result of about 75 candidates from Indore has been put on hold till the court announces any decision.
